If it's a stock RX7, you can give it a run for it's money, but it will prolly take you in the long run - don't even try if it is bridge ported or peripheral ported. You have to remember that although a 12A or 13B rotary has supposedly less ccs than a 1600 ZC, its swept volume is double that of a ZC. On the track, rotaries tend to compete in the 2-3 litre class as they move that volume of air/fuel, compared to a pistoned engine. Only the 10A R100 Mazdas can run in the under 2 litre class.
The RX7 usually puts out 150 bhp at the minimum (depending on spec/series). More than a ZC, but carrying more chassis weight. Modified, a Bridge ported, fuel injected motor will produce 200 plus bhp - a PP up to 300 - I've heard of more, but that was in full race/drag trim. Even an extended port motor is tough to beat as they produce significant power.
Anyway, good luck - I can run a NA 89 RX7 in stock trim down, but wouldn't try it with a modified RX7 and definitely not with a turbo.
